The ferry trip across Nicoya Gulf takes about an hour depending on the destination from Puntarenas. On crossing the tidal boundary across the mouth of the gulf on encounters an upwelling of nutrients (including unfortunately lots of garbage) that attracts a large colony of pelicans. Of course, they've also learned to follow the ferries.
