After frustration at lack of success in the Hollywood entertainment biz, my father joined the US Army in 1940. By the beginning of WWII he was a sergeant. During the war he was sent to officer training and finished the war as a captain of intelligence, having served in India, Burma and China and "flying the hump" on occasion over the Himalayas.

It was while serving in Bakersfield CA in 1942 that he met my mother in the brief courtship that resulted in the long run in this page.
